I'm Anita Gryz, professional artist, and photographer. My roots go back to Poland, I live and work in Münster/.

When I painted a portrait of my teacher in the first grade of elementary school, I discovered my gift and a great ion for art. I will also never forget my grandmother's white glass cabinet. It was in the kitchen and had two drawers. One smelled like crayons, and I couldn't wait to open it. In the following school years, I was involved in all creative projects. I took part in various competitions, vernissages, exhibitions or designed stage sets for the theater performances.

As I grew up, however, my further education went in a different direction. First, I studied Tourism Management in Poland, then I studied Romance Studies in . I found both interesting, but they didn't feel my heart or my vision for the future.

Over time, my longing for creativity grew louder and louder. Finally, I applied to study art, which I successfully completed. My focus was on painting.

After my studies, I work a lot in the Caribbean for the first few years until my son starts school. In a small village in Jamaica, I had my studio and my second home for the wintertime. The people, the landscapes and above all the climate and the botany have had a major influence on my artistic work. Both in painting and in photography. At the same time, I was a member of a studio community in Münster for several years, where I was allowed to show my works to a wide audience every year. Many group and individual exhibitions in the region followed.

In addition to painting, my work as a freelance photographer developed more and more and I got so many jobs that painting became less and less. In the Corona pandemic, parallel to ongoing photo projects, I dared to paint again.

My head is bubbling with ideas. I'm currently trying out new techniques. My current work has become abstract and a bit more experimental. Many works are part of a performance and the result of a collaboration with my 11-year-old son Ben. For example, he improvises on the saxophone, and I paint. I react to the color of the music, to the rhythm, to the highs and lows, to the tempo. In this way, I can get to work with complete freedom. Without having to decide, without evaluating. just action!

My goal is to combine the experiences I have gained over the years with new insights: painting with photography, figuration with abstraction, young with old.

I really enjoy being in the flow and observing how a work of art is created.

For me, art is pure adventure.
