Edward Xu is a contemporary Chinese artist based in the United States. He attended the Shanghai Theatre Academy, where he systematically studied Western drama. After graduating, he ed the Shanghai People's Art Theater as a professional actor, performing in numerous dramas. However, due to youthful impulsiveness, he resigned in 1992 and moved to New York.
The period from 1992 to 2004 is considered the most significant decade of Edward's life. During his time in New York, he developed a strong thirst for knowledge, often hanging a camera around his neck and dressing as an artist while wandering the streets of Manhattan. He explored various galleries, immersing himself in contemporary art and visiting renowned institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and the Guggenheim. Edward's fascination with contemporary art deepened as he closely followed its evolution over the years.
In 2004, he returned to China, where he became actively involved in the performing arts, participating in films and television series as both an actor and a director. Edward continued to travel between New York and Shanghai, engaging in intensive performing arts activities. However, by the winter of 2019, he found himself with more idle time as performing arts activities slowed down. Seizing the opportunity, he purchased paints, canvases, and various tools, transforming a room into a creative space to begin his artistic endeavors.
