"Conqueror of the mountains" - a graphic work of art from the series "The Harlequin Soul".
Many of my paintings and graphic works are dedicated to the theater, because the creation of scenography for performances has fascinated me for more than 20 years. I created the scenery for about 200 performances in different theaters of Ukraine. In my creative activity, the theater is closely intertwined with painting and graphics. This is how a series of theatrical images and characters turned out, in which the main thing is not external resemblance, but the disclosure of a person’s spiritual qualities using theatrical means and symbols.
Once on a train, an elderly man told me the story of his whole life. It so happened that he was left alone with three small children in his arms. Two teenagers and a newborn girl. These were his children, and he decided to devote his life to the upbringing, education and happiness of children. It was not easy, but now his older children have received education and have their own families. The man is no longer young and hopes that he will have enough time and energy to raise his youngest daughter and she will be happy ...
This story inspired me. She remained in my soul and embodied in the work that she wrote. Mountains with gloomy and indifferent faces are the obstacles that this man has overcome. A man sits on a light cloud and has become higher than everyday problems. Older children are also on the cloud. He is not young, snow covered his hair, but you need to have time to help the little girl rise to a height. A man unwinds the threads of his clothes in order to warm her and help to climb the stairs as high as possible. Coldly. Winter is coming soon...
I hope, dear viewer, this story will also delight your soul.

Iryna Lupashchenko is a contemporary Ukrainian stage designer and artist known for her captivating work in theatre and visual arts. With over twenty years of experience, she has crafted set designs and costumes for more than a hundred plays, focusing on world literature classics. Alongside her theatrical work, Lupashchenko has created over five hundred paintings and drawings, blending her love for the stage with her artistic sensibilities.

Her art is deeply symbolic, often featuring figurative portraits of Harlequins, actors, and delicate travesties that reveal the world behind the curtains. Lupashchenko’s work captures the emotional depth and drama of the theatre, aspiring to create artistic imagery that remains true to the laconism and essence of the performances. Her paintings invite viewers to explore the hidden stories and emotions of her characters, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.

Lupashchenko’s works are held in private collections across , Poland, Ukraine, and Russia. She graduated with honors from the Faculty of Graphic Design at the Kyiv State Institute of Decorative and Applied Art and Design named after Mykhailo Boychuk (KGI DPID).
