Born in the south of , Joss Blanchard is an experienced contemporary artist. Her artistic career began with her first solo exhibition at the age of 20.
Over the decades, Joss explored various artistic currents before dedicating herself exclusively to the representation of Trees, becoming a recognized portraitist of trees. Her international exhibitions have contributed to the fame of her work, now present in collections worldwide.
It was in 2011 that she had a decisive encounter with a Remarkable Tree. At its base, a revelation came to her: no longer approach the Tree with human sentiment but rather try to paint it as a being in its own right, for itself (similar to portraits of children, women, and men drawn, "pierced" and painted many times in the past...).
In these crucial times marked by climate change and numerous environmental concerns, aware of the urgency of their protection, the artist commits to highlighting Remarkable Trees. Through her paintings, she strives to honor them and tell their stories by immortalizing them on her canvases, just as one would for illustrious figures.
In these large portraits of trees, Joss captures their distinctive features, their strength, their presence, their essence. Today, her works are the synthesis of all these years spent between abstraction and figuration. This journey led her to create a unique canvas technique that gives relief to the bark through material work and a play of light and vibration in the foliage.
Behind these portraits lies a deep desire to contribute to the protection and recognition of remarkable trees. Inviting the viewer to enter the world of these plant ancestors, Joss Blanchard manages to highlight the beauty of trees while also encouraging the viewer to cast a new gaze upon them.
These paintings become witnesses to an era where living beings reclaim their rights, where a silent collective awareness awakens.
