Even as a child, I was fascinated by the "click" and "clack" of my grandmother's Agfa and Polaroid cameras. While my peers spent their pocket money on sweets, I invested mine in film and photo development. With the evolution of regular mobile phones into camera phones, the ability to take unlimited photos suddenly became a reality. This led to capturing anything and everything that appeared in the rush of the moment, magically freezing it in an image. A few more cameras and, eventually, my first DSLR camera (a gift from my wife) pushed me to dive even deeper into photography. Over time, my understanding of concepts like focal length, sensitivity, and modern image editing grew. Since then, I have experimented widely, aiming to improve without obsessing over perfection.
As a counterbalance to fast-paced digital photography, I later embraced analog photography. Using an Agfa Isolette II and an Agfa Optima I, both from the 1960s, I learned to work more deliberately and precisely. Each shot became a considered decision, with complete control over exposure and focus—unassisted by the electronic aids of modern cameras.
Why do I photograph? It's the fascination with capturing moments that remain forever unique. Through the lens, I freeze scenes, people, and fleeting instances that will never exist in the same way again. Photography allows me to preserve memories and honor life's transience—a window to the most beautiful moments, bringing joy even decades later, like a small time machine.
