Jean-René Petibon is a contemporary French sculptor. To create his marine bestiary, he uses bits of wood from wrecks found off the coastlines of Brittany and shipyards of wooden vessels to make sculptures and assemblages. Because he never paints the wood, the artist just displays the old hues of the boats and finishes his work with a layer of varnish.
