Première arcane majeure du tarot de Marseille, le Bateleur est un symbole de jeunesse, d'énergie, de force vitale. C'est un saltimbanque, un artiste ambulant, un acrobate. Je l'ai représenté dans une attitude nonchalante, fière et décontractée, une main sur le côté, l'autre tenant son bâton. Une balle de jonglerie traine sur le sol. Le tableau mesure 60 cm de hauteur sur 40 cm de largeur, peint sur un panneau de bois entoilé. J'ai voulu conserver le maximum d'énergie, de souplesse et de vitalité dans l'application de la peinture, aussi ai-je posé chaque coup de pinceau une bonne fois pour toute, en évitant au maximum de les retravailler. L'oeuvre est essentiellement réalisée en une seule couche (à l'exception de quelques retouches çà et là). Certaines zones sont plus épaisses, comme le personnage, et d'autres plus fines, comme le sol.

The first major arcana of the Tarot de Marseille, Le Bateleur, is a symbol of youth, energy, and vitality. He is a street performer, a traveling artist, an acrobat. I depicted him in a nonchalant, proud, and relaxed pose, one hand at his side and the other holding his staff. A juggling ball lies on the ground. The painting measures 60 cm high by 40 cm wide, painted on a canvas-backed wooden . I wanted to preserve as much energy, flexibility, and vitality as possible in the application of the paint, so I applied each brushstroke once and for all, avoiding reworking them as much as possible. The work is essentially done in a single layer (with the exception of a few touch-ups here and there). Some areas are thicker, like the character, and others thinner, like the ground.
