This mixed-media artwork is a reinterpretation of the Goddess Themis, symbolizing justice and impartiality, through the lens of contemporary pop-punk aesthetics. The core image is a black-and-white Polaroid photograph of a woman's face, her eyes concealed by a black blindfold, evoking the timeless iconography of fairness and neutrality.

Layered with a provocative collage of letters spelling out "don’t judge", this piece challenges the viewer to reflect on societal norms, personal biases, and the modern interpretation of justice. The raw, analog texture of the Polaroid emulsion lift on watercolor paper enhances the tactile, rebellious feel of the artwork, while bold pops of color from the added mixed-media elements echo the energetic spirit of pop punk culture.
This artwork will fit in any interior and will be a great gift for a connoisseur of analog photography or a topic of conversation for your guests. If you would like to purchase a larger or unframed work, please note the prints. Prints available in several sizes.

Borele’s Medium and Unique Process
Using a Polaroid, Vladimir captures fleeting moments of reality and transforms them through the rare technique of Polaroid emulsion lift. This creative process allows you to lift an image from a Polaroid and in the process, create a new work of art shaped by movement, manipulation, and texture. The consistency of the emulsion allows you to fold, fan, twist, and layer your image in new and creative ways. Vladimir values the tactile experience, using high quality watercolor paper with a rough texture and Polaroid emulsion that disintegrates under his fingers. This process is not very predictable, which makes it similar to ordinary life, where not everything is under our control and we have to rely on our experience and a bit of luck.

Vladimir Borele is a fine art photographer based in Kazakhstan. Influenced by renowned writers and childhood memories of his small hometown, Vladimir searches for meaning through visual poetry. His work encomes several strands: explorations of mortality through Polaroid images of degraded surfaces, both natural and man-made; themes of a broken world, psychological trauma; examinations of emigration, identity, and self-realization amidst the fluid moralities and new paradigms of the data age. Using a Polaroid camera, he captures fleeting moments of reality and transforms them through the rare technique of Polaroid emulsion lift. He values the tactile experience, so he uses watercolor paper with a rough texture and Polaroid emulsion that disintegrates under his fingers. Vladimir shares his knowledge of photography through teaching in Kazakhstan and online. He actively participates in international exhibitions and is a winner and finalist in several photography competitions.
